An excerpt from En Route to Emery

Matthew meets Emery
“I’ll be in the car,” said Diane winking at Emery signaling that she approved.
“So am I easy on the eyes being a white man and all?” he asked laughing.
“Lucky for you, you just so happen to be,” Emery said laughing with him.
“Well I’m glad you think so. I must admit I don’t like meeting you here.  We have to come up with a better place to meet don’t you think?”
“I do, but no one comes out here and we don’t want any trouble remember.”
“You are right but this is never going to sit well with me so I‘ll be looking for better places while I’m out this way. That is if you feel like seeing me again?”
“Sure. Why not?”
“I’m glad to hear that. So how was your day?”
“It was an anxious one. You know finally putting a face to your notes.”
“So you’ve never seen me at your job?” “Never.”
“I stare at you every time I see you walk by.”
“Sorry I didn’t notice that, but I will look for it from now on.”
“I am here this week until Thursday and I was wondering if it would be okay if I called you at home?”
“I would like that,” she said as she wrote her number down in his hand.
